Artist Statement

“My focus as a painter is the observation of familiar and forgotten objects. I enjoy studying the various relationships created between objects through color, reflection and shadow. I strive to capture those relationships realistically through thin layers of paint and glazes.”

Biography

Kathryn Martinez, originally from Salt Lake City, became passionate about becoming an artist during high school and attended the University of Utah to study painting. The summer before her senior year, she was introduced to the Helper art community by a professor at the University of Utah, which led to a summer internship with the Helper Workshops before returning to school. In 2012, she graduated with a BFA in painting and drawing and returned to Helper to apprentice with David Dornan and continue her art education.
